Microsoft is rumoured to be considering opening its full Office suite to both the Apple iPad and Google Android tablets, enabling users to create and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.
A source has told Boy Genius Report that they have seen Microsoft Office running on an iPad and that Microsoft is gearing towards a November arrival for both the iOS and Android platforms.
What’s more, the version the source claims to have seen apparently said “office for iOS”, suggesting it won’t just be the iPad, but iPhones too which will be able to download the software.
Microsoft has previously shown no sign of making its Office suite available to rival operating systems, flatly ruling any such move out earlier this year.
However, with an influx of Android-powered tablets and Apple’s iPad continuing to dominate the market, perhaps Microsoft has decided that it’s missing a trick by not allowing its software to be purchased on these platforms.
