Now it’s not only the food that’s supposed to transport you to another world.

Wagamama is the first restaurant chain to roll out augmented reality placemats in all 80 of its UK restaurants.

Using Blippar, diners will be able to point their smartphones at their tablemats to find out more about Wagamama lounge – the company’s UK music festival lounge – as well as link up to Facebook, YouTube or enter a competition for a free Wagamama meal.

And it needn’t cost you a penny: there's free Wi-Fi throughout the restaurants which means speedy surfing is all part of the package.

The promotion will run from 7 May through to 3 June. So next time you stop for a bite to eat grab a side of augmented reality with your ramen.
