The first time that many mainstream music fans heard the memorably haunting Hoppípolla by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós was when it was used in a trailer for the BBC’s ground-breaking Planet Earth TV series.

So seeing come along is no real surprise, as it was clear from the outset that the extraordinary high-definition pictures of the award-winning series were best viewed with a suitable soundtrack.

Planet Earth In Concert is a series of live events at which George Fenton will conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the soloist Haley Glennie-Smith, as they perform the musical accompaniment, as specially edited footage from the series plays on large format HD screens.

The premiere took place at the Barbican in London late last year and the tour, taking in some of the finest venues in the UK, promises to be a unique opportunity to relive one of the finest pieces of broadcasting in recent years. But you’ll be need to be quick if you fancy going along – tickets are selling fast.
