WEBSITE OF THE DAY - webjam.com

A serious challenger for social networking supremacy

3 December 2007 0:00 GMT / By Ian Hughes

Last week, Facebook picked up the 2007 Pocket-lint award for best website and deservedly so. It kind of had to really. You know a website is successful when employers across the globe start asking their IT departments to block access to it.

But as regular readers of this spot will know there are loads of other social networking sites out there and just because one grabs the headlines, doesn't mean it should get all the attention.

So, here's a challenger, and at first glance it's one that the people at FB might want to take note of.

Webjam lets you pick the best of the web and stick it on your own space - a Webjam. Be it pictures, music, games, news feeds, whatever, you can bring it all together to make an online presence to rival any you've seen before.

Perfect for anybody running a club or society who wants a central point for it's members or even just for individuals who want to tell the world about themselves.

Setting up your own Webjam is so easy it's startling. A series of wizards, so simple they should be in a Terry Pratchett story, lets you create your space and populate it with whatever tickles your fancy. Even easier, if you see something you like on somebody else's Webjam you can simply add that module to your own by using the one click tool.

It's already being used by fan clubs, sporting groups and even the odd politician so there's plenty of inspiration and places to borrow from.

So while Facebook is definitely the mother of all social networks, Webjam just might be the daddy!
