It’s Good Friday and one thing we can pretty much guarantee for today is that the roads (in the UK at least) will be about as far from good as it’s possible to be.

It’s the busiest day of the year for families getting away from it all and gridlock is a certainty.

Right now, as you read this, there will be probably thousands of people staring forlornly at the stationary backends of Ford Mondeos and Nissan Micras, all wondering why they hadn’t just taken the train.

And it’s a bloody good question these days.

With fuel prices what they are, taking a train is increasingly becoming a more affordable way of travelling, and it’s certainly a lot more civilised, if is anything to go by.

From here you can do just about anywhere on the planet by train, and there’s no danger of getting lost in the labyrinthine rail networks of mainland Europe either, as each trip has it’s own expert guide on hand to make sure you don’t stray too far from the right platforms.

It may not suit the more independently minded travellers, but it’s a whole new way for many of people to think about taking a holiday.

All aboard.
