Canon has unveiled a new version of its EOS 60D DSLR camera designed specifically for astrophotographers. The Canon EOS 60Da replaces the 20Da in the company's line-up and has a modified low pass filter that makes the camera more sensitive to hydrogen-alpha wavelengths of light.
The usual 60D, like most DSLRs, features an infrared filter designed to limit the amount of hydrogen-alpha (Há) light that hits the sensor. This specific model offers three times more transparency for that specific band of light, so is potentially better suited for photographing astronomical phenomena such as diffuse nebulae.
In all other specifications, the 60Da is identical to the conventional 60D. It features an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, ISO speeds up to 6,400 (expandable to 12,800), and 14-bit DIGIC 4 processing.
On the rear there's a 3-inch Vari-angle wide LCD screen and Live View support, which features a 1,040k-dot resolution. And Time-Lapse shooting can be performed through EOS Utility or an optional Timer Remote Controller (TC-80N3).
The Canon EOS 60Da will be available from June for £1,174.99.
