The new SHD7001 standalone HD DVD player from Venturer, that was announced with much fanfare at IFA, is to launch in the UK.

Delivering 1080i video output via a direct, pure digital HDMI connection to your HD ready TV, the SHD7001 offers Dolby TrueHD (5.1 channel) sound.

Backwards compatible with DVD and with the ability to upscale, Venturer promises excellent quality pictures and sound with a "reliable and sturdy" construction.

Complete with Ethernet connection to take full advantage of HD DVD's interactive features, the SHD7001 for a limited period will be supplied with an add on package worth around £50.00, bundled as standard with two HD DVDs, "Hulk" and "Troy", and an HDMI cable.

The SHD7001 will initially be available to buy in the UK exclusively from QVC TV Home Shopping Channel from the 29th December.

Pricing is under wraps until launch, but this player was announced at IFA for 299 euros, and went on sale in the States for $199, so we would expect the price tag to be around £199 in the UK, if not a little less...
