Must be nice to be a millionaire. Nothing else to spend your money on than say, building a one-man submarine and fitting it with 3D cameras and diving down to the deepest place at the bottom of the ocean and filming what you see to share with the world. That and buying sports cars, I suppose.
But that’s exactly what multi-blockbuster-making film director James Cameron has done (the submarine, not the sports cars...). He’s obsessed with the ocean, and specifically the deepest, least-explored bits, and over the past few days he’s been making record-breaking dives to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific. Apparently, more men have walked on the Moon than have visited where Cameron has just been.
If you want to see what it’s all about, the official site at www.deepseachallenge.com has everything you need to know about the man, the mission and the amazing machine he’s built.
He’s probably not the only Cameron who wishes he was somewhere very dark and very deep at the moment either.
