To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Japanese company Imperial Enterprises Inc has crafted two officially licensed statuettes of iconic major characters C-3PO and R2-D2. These aren't any old pieces of merchandising/tat, however, they're made of pure gold and silver respectively.
The pure gold C-3PO is, sadly, hollow, but does measure 100x48x32 mm and weighs 0.23kg. In sterling silver, R2-D2 is smaller, at 60x39x36mm, but weighs almost the same, at 0.225kg. When combined, they weigh (approximately) 0.35kg. And only 35 of each will ever be made... Get it?
Both models come in protective glass cases and, considering their limited availability, are sure to be highly collectable.
They don't come cheap, though. The C-3PO statuette costs 500,000 Yen (£3,767), while R2-D2 is 150,000 Yen (£1,130).
We've asked granny for them for Christmas. But suspect we'll just get socks again.
