Today's Google doodle has been finely crafted in honour of International Women's Day, the worldwide celebration that started in 1911, when people of both sexes took to the streets of Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland to campaign for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, hold public office and end discrimination.
Today, there are multiple events across the globe, with 431 of them in the UK alone, and Google is helping to promote the fact.

Pocket-lint has also decided to create its own Google doodle today, which we doubt will ever be seen apart from on this very page. It kind-of celebrates yesterday's major event, but would still apply if Google fancied it for 16 March.
