Talk of the Google "GDrive" service - the online storage offering rumoured to be coming soon from the web giant - has rapidly gained momentum across the web in the last day or so.

The much-rumoured GDrive, initially discovered in a leaked internal presentation earlier this year, is said to be a new data storage service that will allow users to store digital files online and access them via the Internet.

Google has not confirmed that this launch is planned within a matter of weeks, but a Google spokesperson did say: "Storage is an important component of making web (applications) fit easily into consumers' and business users' lives".

Google already offers paid-for storage in Picasa and G-mail. Specualtion in the past has put the GDrive "cloud computing" offering as the first step on the path to a full blown Google OS.
