9 out of 10 Britons use broadband

Super connected UK

Official figures show that nearly nine out of 10 UK net users are connecting via broadband services, reports the BBC.

Information gathered by National Statistics (ONS) for September show 88.4% choose broadband over dial-up with 49.2% for connections of 2Mbps or faster.

Although this is great from a connected-Britain type thing, from an industry point of view, shows the broadband market is rapidly approaching a static state.

But, only 4% of those questioned were using services faster than 8Mbps so there is growth potential in up-selling connection speeds to bandwidth hungry customers.

Broadband firms have relied on converting people from dial-up for most of their growth over the last 12 months, said Tim Johnson, chief analyst at Point-Topic.
