It’s a brave journalist who decides to write about a spelling challenge.
As a species we’re notoriously reliant on ‘F7’ (that’s ‘command, option L’ on a Mac - trust me, I’m fluent in spellcheck, regardless of the operating system) but when it’s a sponsored event that anybody in the world can take part in, a sense of professional pride kicks in and it’s time put my money where my fingers are. Or something like that anyway.
At www.spellathon.net you can take part in the global spelling bee too, and every penny raised goes to Mencap, to support their work helping people with learning disabilities.
There’s a selection of spelling challenges to take on and, if you’re feeling confident, you can even lay down the spelling gauntlet to the one and only king of the tweets, Stephen Fry.
So if you're conscientious (F7) with your conscience (F7 again) have a go and raise some cash while you’re at it.
