Alex Green, formerly Virgin Media's executive director of commercial, TV and online, has left the company in order to take up a position at rival BT.
One of the influential figureheads behind the successful launch of Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo, Green will be hoping to use that experience to reinvigorate the fortunes of BT Vision, as he will take complete responsibility for the TV platform under the title of TV commercial and product director.
He will also be responsible for the brand's involvement in the launch of YouView next year, the much-delayed free TV service funded by a consortium that includes the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV, as well as ISPs Arqiva, TalkTalk and, of course, BT.
It is understood that, while he has already left Virgin Media (presumably on "gardening leave"), Green will not be starting at BT until 2012. However, BT Retail chief executive Gavin Patterson revealed that the new executive will be "focusing closely on our entertainment offering and maximizing the opportunities that the launch of services such as OnLive will bring to BT."
Pocket-lint caught up with Alex Green roughly a year ago, where he was bouyant about the prospects for Virgin Media TiVo. He said of the product, "There's so much that can be done to optimise content for the TV, and this is the perfect way to do it."
It remains to be seen whether he can find an even more perfect way at his new company.
