TomTom has announced its latest app-happy satnav system - the TomTom Go Live 1005 World.
The system has the same app setup that we saw introduced with the Go Live 1535 that went on sale in the States back in September.
TomTom Live satnavs give users access to Twitter, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Yelp. For example, if you're stuck in a strange town, you could look up hotels - complete with prices, reviews and the distance you are from it - with the Expedia app, or check out restaurant reviews for nearby eateries using TripAdvisor or Yelp.
The Twitter function will tweet your location and can also be set to auto-tweet your arrival time if you're running late.
The Go Live 1005 World is a 5-inch satnav with a WQVGA (480x272) display. It has 8GB of internal flash memory (expandable with SD), Bluetooth connectivity and a battery life of around 2 hours before you'll need to plug it in. It measures in at 43 x 88 x 19mm and weighs 266g.
TomTom hasn't enjoyed the best of years in 2011, so will be hoping that the app-rich range will help to get it back on track. The Dutch company recently posted some rather unhealthy Q3 sales and, despite a 50 per cent rise in its Q3 profit, due in large degree to depreciation of the euro against the dollar, sales fell 10 per cent in the same period to €336 million.
The TomTom Go Live 1005 World is available now priced at £329.99. Maps available include Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South-East Asia and Southern Africa.
