HTC Vivid hits AT&T’s 4G network

It's all go for AT&T and its smartphone 4G launch day. First up, we heard all about how the Skyrocket is in flight and now we can tell you about HTC's first 4G smartphone for the US network - the HTC Vivid.

The Vivid hasn't quite got the engine room of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, but still packs quite a hefty punch for its slightly cheaper price-tag.

It boasts a Qualcomm APQ 8060 1.2GHz dual core processor, backed up with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The OS is Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense thrown over the top.

The display is a 4.5-inch qHD super LCD (540x960) one and you can watch its action on your big-screen TV with HDMI out or wirelessly using DLNA.

Cameras are an 8-megapixel one on the back that can shoot 1080p video and a 1.3-megapixel one up front for video calling. The battery is a 1620mAh Li-Ion and it measures 129 x 67 x 11mm.

Obviously there's LTE connectivity on board (AWS/700), but there's also HSPA+/UMTS Tri-band (850/1900/2100MHz), quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

"We are thrilled to continue growing our relationship with AT&T and excited for the HTC Vivid to be one of the first LTE devices on AT&T for the holiday season," said Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales and marketing, HTC.

"The HTC Vivid combines an exceptional display in a premium device that delivers a powerful smartphone to our customers through AT&T’s fast LTE and HSPA+ 4G network"

The HTC Vivid will hit AT&T on 6 November, priced at $199.99 with a 2-year contract.
