Manchester Home Entertainment Show 2011 opens its doors

The 13th annual Home Entertainment Manchester Show opens at the Renaissance Hotel in Deansgate, and there's plenty of kit, high-, mid- and low-range on offer to have a gander at.

Its theme this year is "3D Extravaganza", with a number of the 93 exhibiting brands showing their latest 3D technology. Plus, there's over £16,000 worth of prizes to be won throughout the 2-day event. And there'll be all manner of demos on offer, including a chance to see the Star Wars Blu-rays being played on Panasonic's latest plasma TVs.

Other companies presenting their wares include Samsung, Bowers and Wilkins, Yamaha, Sonos, Onkyo, KEF and the brilliantly named Roksan (who doesn't go "Rok-saaaaannnn, you don't have to put on the red light, even though, technically, you probably need to in order to turn off that stereo amplifier" every time you hear its name?).

So, if you're in the area and fancy a goggle at some proper home cinema kit, or a fiddle with Airplay on a number of devices, get yourself down (or up) to Manchester this weekend.

The show runs from 22 - 23 October, opening from 9.30am to 5.30pm on the Saturday, 10am to 5pm on the Sunday.

Admission costs £7 per adult per day, £4 concessions, with accompanied children under 16 allowed in for free. Students will also, for their £4 entry fee, get a free pair of Pioneer headphones worth £15.
