Nintendo: No DVD for Wii this year

Current demand too great

9 November 2007 9:05 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Nintendo in Japan has posted a message on the questions and answers section of its website stating that the Nintendo Wii will not see DVD playback this year.

The company had promised to get a new model into production that included DVD-playback functionality, a feature lacking from the current version.

The reason for the delay, Nintendo states, is that current demand for the console is so great, they need to focus maintaining effective production.

The Q&A just says that the DVD-version won't get a launch this year, which does not rule out such a model for next year, nor give a clearer timescale.
