Police issue iPhone mugger warning

Owners must hide handsets in public

Scotland Yard has warned future iPhone owners that they could be the target of muggers.

The police warning urged owners to "hide" the handsets when in public amid fears they could be making themselves vulnerable to attack.

Scotland Yard has said it believes high-value handsets are a driving force behind street robberies, especially among young people.

The statement said: "We are aware of the launch tomorrow of Apple's iPhone and we would encourage people not to attract attention to themselves when using a mobile phone in public".
