The BlackBerry Colt, the rumoured QNX powered smartphone, could be set for launch before the end of the year according to a story posted on

The blog cites several sources pointing to an earlier 2011 release for the new handset. Specs themselves remain unclear and plenty rumour-filled. All that is known is that internal testing is being carried out on a single core chip, this could however change.

BlackBerry recently went all out on its 7 OS, launching no less than five new handsets at once. The QNX phone could mean a new flagship phone for the company alongside its powerful PlayBook. Unfortunately things are likely to run into similar BES problems as the company's tablet.

Bringing email to its QNX devices means rewriting a lot of its email server code. Given BlackBerry's famed email powers, the decision to use Microsoft ActiveSync could be a controversial one.

Possibly 2011 then for a device that could turn BlackBerry's fortunes and bring them up to speed with Apple and Android. Maybe hold out on those Bold 9900 preorders
