OnLive boots-up 22 September

OnLive has announced that is is to go, er, live on 22 September in the UK - launching at the Eurogamer Expo in London.

There will be over 100 games on board for the launch, with free memberships available for people wanting to try demos of the service before parting with their cash. You can try any game you fancy for free for half an hour, spectate all games live from the arena, rent for 3 or 5 days, or buy outright.

UK members will also have access to the OnLive PlayPack Bundle which is a library of more than 70 games including Homefront, Large-Scale Warfare Multiplayer, F.E.A.R. 3 Multiplayer, Lego Batman and the original Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition.

"OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK," said OnLive Founder and CEO Steve Perlman. "No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware needed.

"OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere on HDTV, PC, Mac, as well as iPad, Android tablets. High-performance gaming as accessible as streaming video, with unique social features such as massive spectating with voice chat and Facebook integration."

OnLive streams games from souped-up machines in server farms to your web connected machines such as PCs, Macs and tablets via a little set-top box. There's an iOS app already out there and an Android one is coming soon.

Content is played across the internet with little or no latency whatsoever and in high definition. Obviously this does depend on the quality of your internet connection, with American gamers getting 720p at 30fps with a 5mbps connection. Standard definition is possible at 1.5mbps.

The idea is that OnLive can be played anywhere, anytime, and OnLive also offers a universal controller so as "proper" gaming is possible on your tablets. BT is on board as a launch partner as well - so it's clear the gaming platform has done its local homework.

In preparation for the big launch, you can sign up for OnLive now over at www.onlive.co.uk.
