Blaupunkt offers round GPS unit

Get around

Blaupunkt has announced a new GPS unit, the TravelPilot Lucca 3.5 Edition, that offers this rather unusual rotund form factor.

It's unclear what the benefit to the round design is - and whether it is, as we suspect, just a way to make a device stand out in the satnav crowded marketplace.

The unit offers an anti-glare, high-contrast 3.5-inch TFT touchscreen display in 4:3 format, Centrality Atlas III Dual Core 400MHz processor.

There's mapping for the UK/Ireland and major roads of Europe pre-installed and detailed maps of other 21 Western European counties offered on a separate DVD.

Other features include an SD/SDHC/MMC card reader, PIN code security, integrated TMC receiver and speed limit warnings.

We're had confirmation from Blaupunkt that this model will be available in the UK at the end of November. Pricing to be confirmed.
