Panasonic powers up the Lumix DMC-LS5 with AA batteries

Not interested in making the move to a bridge camera, so have no interest in Panasonic's Lumix FZ48 that was just announced? Looking instead for a cheap compact camera that you can chuck in your bag? Maybe the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS5 is more what you're after.

Also just launched by the Japanese company, the Lumix DMC-LS5 is a compact camera that goes back in time to offer AA battery power - handy if you're off on your holidays and you don't want to lug a charger around with you.

But there's nowt old fashioned about the camera spec as it offers a 14.1-megapixel sensor with a 26mm wide angle Lumix DC Vario lens with F2.8 brightness, Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S) tech, Intelligent Auto (iA) and 5 scene Modes -- macro, portrait, scenery, night portrait and night scenery.

It has a 5x optical zoom and it can also shoot 720p HD video at 30fps and comes with software making it simple to share your pics and videos on Facebook and the like.

No word on pricing or availability yet - but we'll keep you updated.
