Call of Duty: MW3 - no Kinect, but 3D maybe

Infinity Ward never considered adding Kinect or PlayStation Move support to its forthcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but is being more cagey on the prospect of the game featuring a 3D mode.

Speaking exclusively to Pocket-lint in a London hotel, the developer's creative strategist Robert Bowling, explained that Kinect control wouldn't be right for the third part of one of gaming's biggest selling franchises: “Not with Modern Warfare 3," he told us. "With Modern Warfare 3, we really wanted to focus on that core gameplay experience. It’s all about polishing and building upon that, and really delivering on our fans’ expectations.

"We haven’t looked, for Modern Warfare 3, at incorporating any motion technology."

However, when asked about incorporating 3D technologies, Bowling was a little more vague: "We haven’t announced a 3D mode for MW3," he said, tantalisingly. That's not a "no".

If it is to feature 3D though, it will only be if Infinity Ward has figured out a way to do it correctly (unlike with Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox 360, which was much criticised). Certainly, Bowling is sceptical: "The market share is still very small, but I’m looking forward to a time when 3D can be implemented flawlessly without making any [negative] impact on frame rate or gameplay experience," he said. "When it gets to that point, that’s when the adoption will be mass [market]."

3D or no, from what the Pocket-lint team has seen (and played) of COD: Modern Warfare 3 so far, we can't wait for its official launch on 8 November 2011.
