We told you earlier in the week about the new Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel from Microsoft due out later this year, and now we’ve tracked it down and tried it out on Forza Motorsport 4.

The Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel is a motion-controlled accessory featuring haptic feedback with rumble that allows you to waggle it about like a steering wheel, without the need to strap it to furniture.

Looking like something that would be more at home on the Nintendo Wii, the steering wheel is U shaped in design with white bands around the tips of each handle that light up green. When not lit they look pretty naff.

Thanks to built in sensors, you won’t need to hold it out vertically to get it to work and that’s going to be very helpful for those who want to kick back on the sofa.

Most importantly, the wheel is very responsive. We noticed no lag in our quick hands on playing Forza 4, and that means you’re going to enjoy playing with the controller rather than cursing it for making you worse.

It also means you can pretend to drive a beautiful Ferrari as if it is a Luton van, something we had great fun doing – simple things and all that.

The build quality is good, and beyond the sensory controls the wheel features all the usual Xbox 360 joypad controls.

If you’re wondering what games the Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel will work with, the good news is that it will work with any driving game already out there, as well as those coming up.

Okay so for the die hard fan looking for a steering wheel to give them a life-like experience this isn’t going to impress. You’re still going to get a better driving experience with a steering wheel that bolts to your coffee table, but this is far more approachable, doesn't require you to have a massive accessory in the living room, and should be more suited for fun driving games too.

It'll cost $59.99 in the States, with UK price yet to be revealed (we expect it to retail for around £40) when it comes out in the UK and US in October.
