Twitter Follow me button takes on Facebook Like

Facebook’s had it for years, but now Twitter is finally getting into the followers game by allowing people to add a Follow button to their website.

Like the Facebook Like buttons seen across the web already, Twitter users can now show their love for their favourite websites by quickly clicking on a dedicated Twitter Follow button.

Launched on Tuesday, the company now lets anyone add a simple Follow button that can be built for you by visiting Twitter, telling Twitter your user name and deciding whether you want your follower count to be shown.

All that's left after that is to put the three lines of code on your website for your visitors to click and then you get a button like this:

“Today we’re excited to launch the Follow Button, a new way to discover and instantly follow Twitter accounts directly from the websites you visit everyday,” said the company on a blog post on Twitter’s site.

According to Twitter “People who follow your account are much more likely to retweet and engage with your Tweets, and to repeatedly visit your website.”

Sadly the button isn't as dynamic as Facebook's plethora of options, and won't highlight Twitter users that follow you in the same way that Facebook does, however it should increase your follower count - it's certainly easier to now follow sites with the button.

You can follow Pocket-lint on Twitter by clicking on our “new” follow button in the right hand column.
