Playfish has signed famous chef Jamie Oliver to provide virtual recipes and other branded cooking items for its massively-multiplayer Facebook game Restaurant City.
For four weeks, players will be able to access one of his pasta recipes per week, and will initially have to collect the ingredients in order to make them. Then, once perfected, they will receive a link to the real recipe on Oliver's own website for download. In addition, when the first recipe on offer, Farfalle Carbonara, has been made in the game, players will receive a virtual version of the Jamie Oliver Pasta Maker for their restaurant. The other recipes on offer will include Asparagus Fettuccine, Basil Pesto Pasta and Meatball Pasta.
Known technology fan Jamie Oliver is happy to see his creations pixelated: “I’m really excited that some of my recipes are becoming part of Restaurant City as it’s such a phenomenon,” he says. “I’m always interested in new social media and I hope that by creating my recipes in the virtual world, the Restaurant City community will be inspired to try making them for real.”
You can join up to Restaurant City through your Facebook account at apps.facebook.com/restaurantcity. It's free to sign up to and play, but some in game items cost Playfish credit (and, therefore, real money).
