Facebook Deals get localised to take on Groupon

Remember when Facebook Deals launched back in January? Sure you do, it's when you stopped using Facebook because you got fed up of seeing all your contacts constantly checking in to Starbucks as they attempted to grab a free Vanilla-bullshit.

Well, Deals has got a re-hash and is now much more Groupon-like. It's more local-specific and it also takes into account discounted activities that you can do with your pals.

"While many Deals on Facebook offer discounts, it's more important to us that you find interesting experiences around you to do with friends," said Facebook's Emily White.

"We've worked with partners and local businesses to help deliver the best social activities in your area. And once you've found a deal you like, having the deal on Facebook makes it easy to share, buy and plan with your friends."

Initially the new Deals platform will be a trial in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego, and San Francisco - although it will be expanding in the future.

Last week Google also began trialling its Groupon competitor - Google Offers.
