Altec Lansing Octiv 650 announced, we go hands-on
Altec Lansing has announced its latest docking solution for your iPod or iPhone - the subwoofer packing Octiv 650.
Pocket-lint has been lucky enough to be in possession of this suave looking speaker for the last week or so (our full review will follow soon) and we have to day that it's pretty mean performer, with the sound quality more than acceptable for its sub-£170 price tag.
As is typical with Altec Lansing's iDevice docks, the Octiv 650 boasts a sleek design, with some high-end audio tech on board, including a flat-front horn loudspeaker design packing two 3-inch full range drivers and a nested 4-inch down-firing subwoofer.
It's also fully Apple certified and music will automatically pause if your iPhone receives a call. If you're not a fanboy, but like the look of the speaker - it does have Aux-in for any non-Apple devices.
It also has TV options, thanks to the component and composite video outputs - meaning that you can watch your iPhone's video content (and stream video from the likes of YouTube) on your big screen.
The dock is also complemented by a couple of free apps, including the Music Mood one, which not only has incredibly intricate equalizer settings (or simple ones if you'd prefer), but also a funky ambient videos and sounds like a crackling fireplace, or rainfall - which could give your living room a Ron Burgundy-esque classiness.
The Altec Lansing Octiv 650 will be available from this month from Apple, John Lewis, Dixons and PC World for £169.99.
