HTC will launch a smartphone with a 3D screen before the end of the year, possibly earlier, Pocket-lint has exclusively learnt.
The move is in direct response to the LG Optimus 3D, which received plaudits at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, in February.
According to multiple sources we’ve been talking with over the last couple of weeks, the new device will be “lighter, thinner and cheaper than the Optimus 3D” when it launches.
What isn’t certain at the moment, however, is the exact date when HTC could make it’s move into the third dimension.
Basically, our sources seem divided; one has suggested that it'll arrive by year end, while another has told us that, following the launch of the Optimus 3D, HTC has pushed up its possible launch schedule to Q3, in order to take on the LG smartphone. That could mean a 3D HTC smartphone in the shops as soon as July - although we suspect not.
With the mobile world congregating on the American trade show, CTIA, in Florida this week, could we see details of a 3D handset announced?
Pocket-lint will be at the show covering all the latest news, live as it happens.
We will keep you posted.
