We've written about enough Angry Birds cakes lately to know that the combination of geeks and baking is a winning formula. We've trawled the internet in our nerdy quest to find the best cookie cutters to flaunt your geekery. Obviously these aren't strictly gadgets, but us nerdlings need to eat too. Read on for our round-up of the best geek cookie cutters around.
Science cookie cutters
Baking is really all about science - about getting the proportions right when you concoct your mixture. It's not really that different from mucking around with a chemistry set, apart from the fact that you can usually eat the results without risking death (depending on who's doing the cooking).
That's why it's fitting that the first set of cutters in our round-up are fashioned in the shape of scientific lab equipment. Along with a test tube and beaker, you'll also get an atomic structure and a conical flask (or Erlenmeyer flask, to give it its proper, nerdy name). $12.99
Any kind of geek round-up would seem slightly amiss without at least one mention of Star Wars. Thankfully US kitchen store Williams-Sonoma has come up trumps and introduced a entire range of goodies inspired by the legendary sci-fi flicks.
With not one, but two sets of cookie cutters on offer, you can choose from a Heroes and Villains pack, comprising Yoda, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper, or a Vehicles set that boasts the Death Star, Millenium Falcon, X-Wing Fighter and a Tie Fighter. $19.95 per set
Based on the iconic Japanese arcade game, these colour-coded Pac-Man cutters are the perfect choice for gaming aficionados. The pack comes complete with the big-gobbed protagonist along with pesky ghosts Blinky, Pinky and Inky. Their dastardly orange-tinged chum Clyde is notable by his absence, but then you can colour your cookies any hue you like.
In fact, it's a bit pointless there being three identical ghost cutters in the box really as they all do the same job. Still, it makes the packaging look nice. £11.99
What better way to hone your ninja-like baking skills than with this set of Ninjabread Men cookie cutters? The set of three cutters shows a small troop of the ancient Japanese warriors in varying battle stances for nerdy bakers that like their biscuits with a bit of kick.
Obviously you can use them to make any kind of cookies you like, but the joke falls slightly flat unless you use gingerbread. £6.99
If you're a fan of the famous technicolour building blocks from Danish brand Lego, then look no further than these extremely cool Lego men cutters. There are two in the set - a man and a woman, with the latter identifiable by its skirt (we suppose that you could use it as a crossdresser, or scotsman if you prefer).
The beauty of these cutters is that you can decorate them however you want to make them look like the Lego Minifigure of your choosing, whether that's a pirate, a punk or a policeman.
