PS3 3.60 update rains in cloud storage

Sony has gone live with version 3.60 of the PlayStation 3 firmware, with the most obvious addition being the cloud-based game service for PS Plus subscribers.

Gamers who cough up their subscription fees will be able to upload game-save files up to 150MB in size, and online saving will also allow PS3ers to access their game data when playing on their buddies' consoles as it will all be linked into a PlayStation Network account.

We've also seen reports that developers will have the ability to opt their titles out of the server-based saving service, apparently due to concerns that the platform "will allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage".

PS3 3.60 firmware also gives gamers an option file to control how long their control pads stay active when not being used, which is handy for battery saving.

The download is available now.
