Transformers director Michael Bay prompted a small scandal earlier this year when he criticised Paramount's choice of HD DVD over Blu-ray for his movies' home cinema releases.

At the time, in his personal blog, Bay stated that the decision had made him reconsider his option to make a sequel:

"I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"

Bay since "drank the Kool-Aid" and u-turned on his statement, but it now appears the director is still unhappy with his studio's decision, telling USA Today that: "As a director, my critical eye is that Blu-ray is where my money is".

Despite the HD DVD version of Transformers becoming the fastest selling HD release on any format after its US launch, Bay is not shy to share his displeasure with the format war:

"It's short-sighted and it has delayed consumers' moving to HD", he said. "Consumers are smart, and they are going to wait it out."

This will certainly take the shine off the fast-selling announcement that the studio made earlier this week. We can perhaps expect another hasty retraction soon...
