Rickshaw rides into the future with electric makeover

An electric Rickshaw is due to hit the streets of Japan, which looks to move with the times whilst retaining a variety of traditional elements.

The eco-friendly, electric-powered rickshaw has been manufactured by the Yodogawa group in Japan and uses a  single lithium-ion battery that can propel the vehicle to speeds of 25 miles per hour.

The rickshaw can handle up to three people, and the design has been kept as simple a possible with blankets being provided instead of any fancy heaters, and fans instead of air conditioning.

All the materials in the electric rickshaw are natural, apart from the motor, with bamboo flooring and a traditional aesthetic.

Coming soon to a Japanese street near you.
