Transformers on HD DVD breaks records

Becomes top-selling week one HD release

To put this in perspective, the HD DVD sales are still very low compared to standard DVD sales, with 4.5 million DVDs sold on day one compared to 100,000 HD DVDs, and there's no Blu-ray release for a true comparison, but it's still a milestone for the HD DVD camp...

The blockbuster hit from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, Transformers, has seen North American sales exceeding 100,000 HD DVDs its first day of release.

The title "rocketed" past previous releases to become the fastest and best-selling day one high definition title - on a single format.

The film has sold over 190,000 HD DVDs in its first week making it the top-selling week one release on either high definition format, as well as the best-selling HD DVD ever.

In the first week, over 20% of consumers have connected to the unique web-enabled features available on the Transformers HD DVD.

This news will be especially pleasing to the studios, and the HD DVD camp, following the publicity generated earlier this year when Transformers director Michael Bay went public to say he did not want to make a sequel if it was only going to get an HD DVD release, something he later retracted.
