Onkyo unleashes affordable home cinema system duo

Onkyo is renowned for producing some top drawer audio home cinema equipment, and so Pocket-lint is especially pleased that the company has just unleashed two new home cinema systems.

The Onkyo HT-S3305 was short listed as best audio product in the 2010 Pocket-lint Gadget Awards 2010, and so the two new systems consisting of the HT-S3405 (looking like the direct update) and HT-S5405 are sure to carry on the quality.

The HT-S3405 is the more affordable of the two, though the receivers of both systems feature the latest implementation of the HDMI connectivity standard with full support for 3D video, lossless audio from Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and an Audio Return Channel. Along with four HDMI inputs and one output, each receiver includes a generous selection of digital and analogue A/V inputs to handle a wide range of playback devices.

The amplifier sections in both of the receivers incorporate massive transformers, optimum gain volume circuitry, and PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry to preserve signal accuracy.

The HT-S5405 package offers the most extensive feature set. It features Onkyo’s proprietary Universal Port to enable single-cable connection of Onkyo peripheral devices such as a DAB Tuners etc. Furthermore, the HT-S5405 also boasts superior audio DACs for improved sound quality.

The HT-S5405 also comes with five compact full-range speakers and a powered subwoofer with a "stylish" gloss finish.

The differences in the two systems consist of the HT-S3405 lacking the front-panel USB port, subwoofer pre-out, and Audyssey 2EQ. The power output of the two systems, however, is exactly the same.

The Onkyo HT-S5405 system will set you back £399.99 whilst the HT-S3405 will cost £299.99, and will be available at end of March and end of February respectively.
