Olympus SP610U camera zooms onto the scene

How close do you really need to go, that’s the question Olympus is hoping you’ll be asking around February time when its latest zoom camera hits the shops.

Olympus has announced the SP-610UZ digital camera, a new 22x wide zoom camera (28mm-616mm) at CES in Las Vegas.

The 14 megapixel camera will come with a 3-inch LCD screen and will be available in black for around £180 from February 2011.

Olympus are also boasting 3D picture capabilities, however reading the small print it turns out that its not because they’ve included a double lens like Fujifilm, but because they’ve added some in-camera stitching feature.

On the movie front there is the now almost standard 720p video recording for when you bored of zooming in on things.

Elsewhere you’ll get eight Magic Filters, including new Watercolour and Sparkle, Eye-Fi support and In-Camera Panorama, Pet Detection, Advanced Face Detection, AF Tracking, TruePic III+ image processor, and Dual Image Stabilisation
