Brace yourselves. This is the time of year when you start to be bombarded by all kinds of "best of" lists. If you can measure it, count it or quantify it, you’re almost certainly about to be presented with the best example of it from the past 12 months.
It's become a staple of the Christmas season, like family arguments and crap telly.
But there is usually one medium that is well worth being subjected to this process. The year in pictures is usually something to behold. It doesn't matter what discipline - sport, reportage, even paparazzi - reliving a year in pictures is always a treat.
But if you want to track the trends and really see what's been in the frame this year, the WPO is about the best place to come. They are a body who support pro, amateur and student photographers and their site, www.worldphoto.org is a feast for the eyes.
If you fancy yourself as the next Rankin or Liebowitz, there's still time to enter their open competition too.
