Halo fans are in for a treat with the Halo Waypoint application on Windows Phone 7. Giving access to videos, the community, pics and exclusive Halo-based content, the app is completely free and is now available in the WP7 Marketplace.

Waypoint is already available as a free download for the Xbox 360 (via XBLA), so you don't need a Windows Phone 7 device to have an account and access, but this is the first and, possibly, only way that you'll be able to take the portal with you wherever you go.

As well as offering a host of interesting Halo content, interviews and the like, the app allows you to check out relevant Twitter updates, and helps you to keep track of your progress through all of the Halo games; giving statistics and displaying your achievements.

It could be the excuse that gamers need to jump on board the new OS.

Would this make you consider switching handsets to a Windows Phone 7 device? Let us know in the comments below...
