Ping hasn't exactly been the roaring social-media success that the chaps at Cupertino would have hoped that it would be.
You can imagine them sitting in a conference room, coming up with the concept, and picturing kids using "ping" as a verb in their everyday chatter. But it has proved about as popular as the rise in university tuition fees.
Okay, so that may be a bit harsh as no-one has burst in to 1 Infinite Loop demanding change, or thrown a fire-extinguisher off of its roof - but it's obvious that it's been a bit of a damp squib.
But Apple is too proud to admit defeat, yet, and has wheeled in Twitter to attempt to get the platform off of the ground.
Using the newly redesigned Twitter.com, users can now hook up their Twitter and Ping accounts and send links to their favourite artists and songs.
Twitter.com can then display iTunes content right on the page even letting you preview the song, before clicking the link to buy it via iTunes.
"Every day, millions of people use Twitter to follow and share what they care about", said Twitter's Kevin Thau.
"Twitter users now send over 95 million Tweets a day, many of which are about the music they're listening to.
"Starting today Ping, iTunes' new social network for music, and Twitter are making it even easier for people to share music discoveries with their friends by putting Ping activity, song previews and links to purchase and download music from the iTunes Store right in their Tweets on Twitter.com".
