APP OF THE DAY - Movie Vault (iPhone)
As Friday comes and goes many will be looking forward to the weekend, however many fans of this beloved app slot will have a heavy heart as it will be a full 2 days before App of the Day will once again grace the virtual pages of Pocket-lint.
Still, to make it up to you, we've got a cracker which will no doubt keep you entertained over the weekend, especially if the weather isn't too great. As this brings classic cinema whenever you need it from the big screen to the small it's...
If you are one of the many who believe that a lot of films these days have got it all wrong, with too much violence and a plot as thin as a, eh, particularly thin rake, then this is the app for you. Movie Vault brings together the best of classic cinema in one handy app, allowing you to stream movies at a moments notice to you iPhone/iPod.
This update, which follows the successful iPad version, launched on 18 October and brings with it over 1000 movies - even at £1.79, to our mind this makes it a bargain.
The interface is all pretty straightforward, with swipe navigation and the ability to browse movies by genre, keyword, actor or director - it all looks nice too, with true cover art and info from IMDB.
There's also an update on the way which will make use of the iPhone 4's Retina Display and better streaming.
If we were going to be picky, there's a slight delay when opening up the app, and perhaps the swipe isn't as smooth as we'd like - there's also a little too much Bulldog Drummond for our taste. However, the proof is in the pudding and whilst streaming Road to Bali, starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope we found it very smooth indeed.
Definitely worth a look.
