Skype 5.0 for Mac has finally arrived in beta, but unlike Microsoft users, fanboys won't be able to bring in their Facebook buddies - this feature, which hit Skype 5.0 for Windows last month, is missing from the release.
However, there are a number of key improvements including a totally revamped, Mac-friendly UI, integration with your Mac address book, group video calling, a new call control bar, improved contact searching, offline instant messaging and a floating contacts manager.
Product manager for Skype for Mac, Krishna Panicker said: "It was worth the wait - the new Skype 5.0 is now available for Mac today in beta, introducing a revamped look and feel that simplifies navigation and provides a more Mac-like experience.
"For example, the Skype app has been brought together in one window for ease-of-use, and the Mac address book has been integrated, making it possible for you to call, IM and SMS your contacts when they are online or offline".
The beta release is available from Skype now. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
