New Facebook iPhone and Android apps go live

Facebook has updated its iPhone and Android apps as it pushes its Facebook mobile platform concept, and guess what? Both are already available in the relevant app stores to download.

iPhone users will be able to download the new Facebook iPhone 3.3.1 app while Android owners for the first time get the new features in an update (Facebook for Android 1.4) at the same time.

Facebook for iPhone 3.3.1 will be getting Groups, while Places will also be getting an update to tagging, allowing you to easily tag where you are and who you are with.

The “check-in” button is now considerably more visible on all pages of the app to encourage check-ins.

With the iPhone 3.3.1 application, you can also find nearby deals from your favourite businesses says Facebook, although only in America.

In the US Facebook has teamed up with company’s like GAP and the Palms hotel in Las Vegas to offer deals to those nearby.

The new Android 1.4 update includes the launch of Places and Groups. Android 1.4 also includes a refresh to the notifications application, one of the top requests from our users.

Both apps now have the ability to add photos when you check in, while Places has been updated to include a starred friends list, making it even “faster and easier to tag friends with whom you frequently check-in”, says Facebook - suggesting that there is “no more searching and scrolling”.

Both apps are available now.

Not surprisingly to some, Facebook is as yet to offer an official iPad app.
