Mozilla developing full mobile web browser

Firefox for your phone

Mozilla is to release a version of their free Firefox browser for mobile phones, the company has announced.

"People ask us all the time about what Mozilla's going to do about the mobile Web, and I'm very excited to announce that we plan to rock it", said Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla's VP of engineering, in his blog.

"We are serious about bringing the Firefox experience and technology to mobile devices."

A Mozilla browser is available on Nokia N800 smartphones and Mozilla also offers Minimo, its mini Firefox browser, to some Windows Mobile-based smartphones users.

But, the version the team are working on now will "bridge" the desktop and mobile browsing experience by offering a more fully featured experience with bookmarks, history, extensions, and other Firefox capabilities that will work on phones as well as they do on PCs.

It will be a while before you will see Mobile Firefox though - it will be available after Firefox 3, so not until next year.
