Getac S400: Cruising and ready for a bruising

Getac has announced its latest bit of tough-kit - the semi-rugged Getac S400 notebook.

The S400 is IP5X and MIL-STD-810G certified, which means that it will be able to handle a bit of a bashing as well as holding up in dusty and moist environments.

You can choose either an Intel Core i3-350M 2.26GHz or an Intel Core i5-520M 2.4GHz processor. It has a 14-inch, 1366 x 768, anti-reflection screen display and you can have it configured to include a 700nit display. The screen supports Getac’s resistive-type multi touchscreen, which allows for gloved operation.

Connectivity is via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an optional integrated modem, GPS and a Gobi 2000 3G module. It has a 320GB HDD or a 80GB SSD for storage.

It's tough due to the Kryptoshell chassis and offers a maximum operating temperature range of minus 15-degrees Celsius to 45-degrees Celsius.

"This semi-rugged notebook is the ideal choice for operators needing a unit that can easily withstand bruises and bumps, but who don’t require a fully-rugged, sealed unit solution", said Peter Molyneux, sales and marketing director of Getac in the UK.

"The S400 14-inch rugged notebook fulfils a gap in the market for a powerful, robust notebook that can be used on the go by the emergency services, light military, utility services and project managers in the field".

We're waiting to hear from our Getac contacts regarding pricing and availability, so check back for updates soon.
