FIFA 2011 is the fastest selling sports game of all time, according to its makers EA.
The gaming giant has announced that, following its release in the States on 28 September and Europe 3 days later, the football sim has sold over 2.6 million copies and generated almost £100 million in sales.
FIFA 10 was previously the record holder, but this year's effort is 29 per cent up on that on a like-for-like time basis.
"We're thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend", said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.
"This is a landmark achievement for EA Sports - we've shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions".
EA Sports also stated that the first weekend in October was also the busiest 2-day period for online gaming in its history as FIFA 11 fans did battle via the Wi-Fi waves.
