Vodafone to offer MusicStation free to £40+ contract customers?

Rumour sees free unlimited music offer to rival O2 and iPhone

The New Media Age is reporting that Vodafone will offer Omniphone's "MusicStation" all-you-can-eat music download service for free to certain customers.

We do know that the new service will be pre-loaded on some new Vodafone handsets in the company's Christmas line-up but will also work on existing 2.5G and 3G mobiles through Vodafone live! platform.

The service is planned to be £1.99 per week for unlimited downloads but the NMA states that Vodafone is hoping to "counter" O2's roll out of the iPhone by giving the service free to subscribers who spend over £40 per month and are on 18-month contracts.

Pocket-lint spoke to Vodafone to try and clarify this but were told that there are "no further details yet". A Vodafone spokesperson said: "We have a number of new initiatives to be announced in time for Christmas".
