The World Cup is a Mickey Mouse tournament that no-one really cares about (this popular opinion began at around 4.30pm on 27 June, after Thomas Müller exposed England's defence for the shoddy, shameful mess that we all, deep down, knew that it was).
But the Premier League on the other hand is the ultimate football competition. It's the best league in the world. Sure, all the best players come from far and distant lands, but it's our national championship and they can never take that away from us. Sure Argentina has a far better national side, but does the world tune in for San Lorenzo vs. Banfield? No, the Premier League is where it's at.
So the news that Sky Sports 1 and 2 are coming to BT's IPTV service will be great news for footie fans.
If you're a BT Vision customer, then you'll be able to sign up to the service next month and the channels will go live on 1 August, with the big Premier League kick off on 14 August.
Gavin Patterson, chief executive of BT Retail, said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone, which means that we can be certain of offering Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to our customers before the football season kicks off. We know our customers will be keen to sign up for the two channels”.
There's no news on pricing as yet, just a promise that it will be revealed shortly.
So, just under 7 weeks until the real football action begins again. Who needs Argentina vs. Germany when there's the mouth watering Blackpool vs. Wigan north-west derby to look forward to?
