Yahoo buys Flickr

21 March 2005 17:12 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Yahoo! Has agreed to buy the photo sharing website Flickr for an undisclosed sum to boost its blogging offering.

The service which allows users to personalise photo collections on the web supports a number of options including the ability to share photos, submit them to rss feeds and work with camera phones.

The two services will remain separate for the moment but Flickr features will be integrated into Yahoo's existing photo hosting service, Yahoo Photos. Users will also be able to log into Flickr using their Yahoo password.

The announcement of the buy comes days after Yahoo! Announced Yahoo!360. A new Yahoo service that plans to blend several of its popular features with blogging and social networking.
