Canonical boss Chris Kenyon has stated that a version of Ubuntu specially designed for tablets could be coming our way in early 2011.
Ubuntu is a Linux OS based on the Debian GNU and can currently be found on PCs, netbooks, servers and mobile devices using the MID Edition. The move to a tablet platform is the next aim according to Kenyon.
He said Ubuntu has "broader and bigger ambitions than just netbooks".
"The devices world is a really exciting space right now and we're really bullish on it", he said.
"Hats off to the iPad team for doing what they did".
PC World is stating that a tablet version of Ubuntu would be based on version 10.10 which is, brilliantly, codenamed Maverick Meerkat. If any aspiring cartoonist out there are planning a new superhero, that's your name right there.
